Rosemary Bourbon Sour

A Few Pertinent Facts:  It’s August, it’s still summer, it’s hot, and it’s ridiculous that school is starting so soon!  Let’s celebrate that it’s still summer!! rbsside2So light and refreshing with just a hint of rosemary, this bourbon sour is the perfect summer cocktail.  I know what your thinking, rosemary and bourbon, how can this be light?  Typically I don’t think of either in a summer beverage, but it really works.rbstop1A fragrant woody herb, rosemary can easily overpower, but steeping the sprigs in simple syrup creates that gentle earthy hint that’s really tasty.rbsside1Let’s toast the remaining weeks of summer!!  Cheers!

Rosemary Bourbon Sour

Ingredients

Kentucky Bourbon (for this recipe, we used Cabin Still)

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

Lemons

Rosemary sprigs

Directions

  1. To make the simple syrup, combine sugar and water in small saucepan.  Heat over medium high heat until sugar dissolves.  Remove from the heat and add 4-5 rosemary sprigs.  Steep for at least 20 minutes, remove sprigs and allow to cool completely.  Refrigerate up to 1 week in air tight container.
  2. To a cocktail shaker, add 1.5 ounces bourbon, 1 ounce fresh lemon juice, 0.5 ounce simple syrup.  Add ice and shake.  Strain and pour over 1 large ice cube. Garnish with a rosemary sprig.
